On a very nice Thursday evening I had the opportunity to begin the month of September in a football stadium.
The season opener for The Citadel did not go well for the Dogs. We appeared to be smaller, slower, and not as talented as our capable opponent.
But the night will be remembered for more than an unsuccessful opening to the 2022 football season.
First - being chauffeured to the game by my son - who has always had a mildly soft spot for his father's wild ideas, such as "Hey, let's drive two hours one way on a Thursday night to see my alma mater open its football season, you in?"
The second is we coined a new "Uh...what are you thinking-ism", which from now on will be labeled, "Dad, kickoff was at 6." I love my kids - they give as good as they take.
Lastly ... Campbell University's mascot is the Camel. Not sure why, but if I had to bet $25, I would tell you it is an association with Camel, as in Camel cigarettes. NC is a tobacco state, not judging at all, I like cigars and bourbon (bourbon more...but that's another story). Which will likely have an ending tag line of "Dad, kickoff was at 6."
